K2C 2024 photos, results and thanks

Reflecting on K2C 2024

Results, photos and thanks!

Dear Kruger2Canyon Challenge 2024 Participants,

It has been just over a week since Laerskool Mariepskop was buzzing with runners, supporters, flags, tents and gazebos. The dust has settled. Bodies have (mostly) recovered. And hopefully the memories of little Kampersrus and of your achievement are still vivid and exciting!

In a time when not only are long-standing events knocking it out the park, but there are also there are new ones coming online all the time, we want to thank you for choosing the Kruger2Canyon Challenge.

Naturally all organisers love and believe in their event, but we do feel that K2C offers something very unique – a beautiful melting pot of diverse running, massive personal challenge, breath-taking beauty, fund raising for meaningful conservation work, and community.  We hope that each of you took something special away with you – be it a personal shift that we often get when out in nature, an view, sense of place, or a connection that you made with a fellow runner.

This is the first year that K2C has been organised without a dedicated administrator and support staff. To have been able to execute our event to the level I had hoped and meet the standard of events gone by, was only possible thanks to the community around us.

Race partners, service providers, family, and friends who ask “how can we help” are the X-factor that makes all the difference. To each and everyone of you, I thank you from the bottom of my heart!  Our Race Partners – PURA Hydration, Hoedspruit FM and AM Spa all brought huge value to K2C 2024 and we are very grateful for their support and the value that they brought to the event!

MCSA Limpopo

MCSA Limpopo hosted a new aid station at the “saddle” on Day 1. We had planned to hear from them at Prize-giving, but their spokesman & Day 1 sweep, Martin Swart voluntarily went from runner to sweep on Day 2.    If you would like to find out more about hikes in the local area, gain skills to go on big mountain missions and meet other like-minded mountain folk, scan the QR code to start the process of becoming a member.

For those who have not seen the updated results, you can find them HERE. If you notice any anomalies, please let us know so we can make any corrections necessary.

Race Photos

Our first batches of photos from Josh van der Ploeg and Chris Doman have been loaded to our Facebook Albums – find them HERE. We will load more as fast as we can, without crashing the Kampersrus internet, so keep checking in to relive the magic!!

Looking ahead

We have provisionally set our 2025 dates for 27 – 29 June 2025 and are working towards opening entries on 1 September this year.

As our 2024 participants, you will not only be the FIRST to know, but we would like to thank you for your support with a discount into next years event.  So keep your eyes on your inboxes for that!!

Feedback

We are always aiming to make improvements to our event. If you have any suggestions or constructive feedback, please do let us know. Likewise, in a world where word-of-mouth is so valuable, please take the time to drop us a Google Review to help other runners deicide what events to choose in 2025 and going forward.

K2C Biosphere

Lastly, the K2C Biosphere. In the last 6 months, not only have I had the privilege of working with and getting to know the people behind the organisation better, but I have gained a deeper understanding of the work that they do and why.

I referred earlier to “meaningful conservation”, because while they undertake scientific studies, they go out into the communities to conduct stakeholder engagement to see what the “human” needs are, beyond the scientific recommendations. Rural community members know the K2C staff and Environmental Monitors better than they know their Ward Councillors.

They embody their vision of “Partnering to achieve a sustainable future for all life in the K2C Biosphere Region” and we are so proud to stand alongside them!

Thank you again for travelling from all over to our little corner of the world and soaking up the experience that we laid out for you.

We look forward to hosting you again in Kampersrus,

Lauren & Andrew
