Did you know that the K2C Challenge is not just for runners? With no official cut-offs for the 20km and 30km events, we’re excited to announce that this event is officially hiker-friendly.
An Event for Everyone
The K2C Challenge is more than a race. Raising funds for the K2C Biosphere organisation, a huge priority for us is that the event is accessible – we want people to experience this special region! Considering that only the elite 2% of participants actually run the entire course, and that one of the most common questions that we receive is “But can I hike it?”, we thought it was time to make it official. So, if you’re someone who isn’t interested in Finisher Times and prefers to take in the sights and sounds of nature at a more leisurely pace, you’re in good company and hiking the route is just for you!
What to Expect
Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or just starting out, this challenge is designed to accommodate everyone.
The 20km over 2 days is perfect for those new to hiking. Made up of a 10km route each day, you will get a taste for the Afromontane Forests of Mariepskop on Day 1 and the Lowveld & picturesque town of Kampersrus on Day 2. A great mix of technical footing and spectacular views!
The 30km event takes participants right to the top of Mariepskop on Day 1 – a 5km climb with close to 1000m elevation gain, a loop through the clivia forests on top of the mountain before the testing descent back to the Start / Finish. On Day 2, participants wind through the mostly dusty streets of Kampersrus, loop through Moholoholo Mountain View and return back to the venue at Laerskool Mariepskop.
These breathtaking landscapes showcase the stunning and diverse Kruger to Canyons Biosphere Region and as you hike through diverse terrains, you’ll have the chance to fully immerse in nature, connect with fellow adventurers and challenge-seekers, and experience the camaraderie that makes this event special.
The K2C Challenge is not just about completing a course; it’s about embracing the great outdoors and celebrating our connection to nature.
